The Aragopedia Ontology is the vocabulary used for the generation and publication of Linked Data for the Aragopedia project. It has been constructed as a simple OWL vocabulary that extends the DBpedia ontology in order to cover some of the concepts and properties that were not available in that ontology, such as the concepts of Comarca and Comunidad Autónoma, and several properties related to the population of different administrative regions, recycling, tourism data, petrol consumption, land use, etc.
The ontology is available in the OWL language at http://opendata.aragon.es/def/Aragopedia.owl
As discussed above, this ontology has been built to provide vocabulary support to the data that has been published as part of the Aragopedia project, which is focused in providing data about the different administrative regions in Aragón (Spain). As such, the ontology is a very lightweight ontology that extends the current version of the DBpedia ontology with some specific concepts and properties that are the basis for the generation of the Aragopedia data.
In the future, the development of the following revisions of this ontology will be open to the general set of developers that are making use of this data.

The Aragopedia Ontology is structured, on the one side, according to the geographical areas that are covered currently in the Aragopedia data, namely municipalities and provinces, which are well covered by the DBpedia ontology, and also regions that are related to the Spanish administrative division, such as comarcas and comunidades autónomas, for which specific concepts have been generated.
The following figure summarises the main types of classes that can be found in this ontology.
As we can see in the figure, most of the classes in this taxonomy come from the DBpedia ontology, and we have only added the classes Comarca and ComunidadAutonoma, so that these two types of administrative areas can be referred to from our data. Besides, the DBpedia ontology is aligned to the schema.org ontology, and hence dbpedia:Place and schema:Place are considered equivalent.
There is also an additional class defined in this ontology, the type of touristic establishment, which is used in one of the statistical data cubes to refer to different types of touristic places for which there are statistics (hotels, apartments, rural hotels and campings).
From the point of view of properties, there are several properties that are applicable to any of the places or regions that we use in the ontology, and that are hence associated to the class dbpedia:GovernmentalAdministrativeRegion. These properties are those that allow specifying the male and female population of a place or region and the comunidad autónoma and country to which the place or region belongs (in all cases it will be http://opendata.aragon.es/recurso/territorio/ComunidadAutonoma/Aragón and http://es.dbpedia.org/resource/España, respectively). The usage of these properties is summarised in the following figure, using one of the municipalities that we can find in our dataset, Abiego:
Finally, the last set of properties is the one used in each of the statistical data cubes that are represented and published in this dataset. There are currently four data cubes in the dataset: one about tourism data, another one about recycling, another one about land use and a final one about petrol consumption. The representation of these data cubes follows the W3C recommended RDF Data Cube vocabulary. For each statistical observation (each cell in the data cube), there will be a set of dimension properties, which provide the context for the value properties. The following figure provides an overview of one of these observations, specifically the one that provides data about the hotels in Jaca
